About us
Who are we?
We are a Yorkshire based group of Rover owners who meet in order to share our love of these fine motor vehicles. As our name suggests we are primarily a Rover club, but we do also welcome owners of any classic cars.
Where do we meet?
We meet at 7pm on the first Monday of every month (unless it is a bank holiday) at: Netherton Sports & Social Club, 139 Netherton Lane, Netherton WF4 4HQ. nethertonsportsandsocialclub.co.uk. We have a couple of meetings every year elsewhere, so it’s worth checking before you travel.
How much does it cost?
Annual membership currently costs what we think to be a very attractive £15. This is paid on the first of October (part year membership is charged pro rata).
What do I get for my membership subscription?
All members receive a monthly newsletter, and (at yearly renewal) a copy of Morgans Vehicle Events Year Book, free entries to selected shows (where the YRC organizes a club stand) & free entry to our own show at Oakwell Hall. There is also a subsidised Christmas dinner.
How many members does YRC have?
We currently have 72 members. We compile a members list once a year which is made available to all members. This enables you to identify other member’s cars that you might see at shows etc. – it will also allow you to contact other members with the same model of Rover, if you need technical help etc. It is also useful if we are planning to meet up for runs, or travelling in convoy to events etc.
What type of Rovers are covered by the YRC?
We welcome anybody who owns a Rover the type, model, condition, colour or year is immaterial. Current YRC members have cars from just about every model range pre-war, P2, P4, P5, P6 & SD1. We also have in our ranks 214/216s, a Mini, a Metro & several modern 75s. There are even some members with cars from other manufacturers.
How do we keep in contact?
The YRC monthly newsletter. The purpose of the newsletter is to keep all members abreast of the various activities within our club & also what other local classic car clubs are doing. You can also advertise for sale/wanted any classic related items free of charge, request assistance with any problems you may encounter or simply tell us all about yourself & your car, events you have attended etc.
The monthly newsletter is published as near as possible to the first day of each month. It is given out at the monthly meeting. If you do not attend the meeting then it will be sent out via e-mail or post. Due to the spiraling costs of postage we would encourage all members with an e-mail address to receive the newsletter electronically.
We recognize that club meetings are not for everybody, so we don’t expect full or even regular attendance. Indeed, due mainly to the distances involved, we have many members based in north, east & south Yorkshire who are happy just to stay in touch via the newsletter.
Is there a committee?
There is a non-elected committee which currently consists of a chairman, treasurer, secretary & an events coordinator. In the past, the regional representatives of the national Rover clubs involved, have automatically been committee members, but this is not always the case.
YRC members do not have to be a member of any of the national Rover clubs, but we do encourage YRC members to joint one of the ‘parent’ national clubs.
We rely on the national clubs for general support & also for event insurance for YRC’s own show.
We are looking to add the regional representatives of other Rover clubs into our club & possibly the committee.
What does the YRC do?
Our own show. As a club we arrange, for the benefit of all local classic car owners (not just Rovers) a classic car show every year. Currently this is held at Oakwell Hall, Birstall near Batley in June.
We organize a YRC club stand at some local shows, where YRC members can attend for free. In previous years these have been arranged at Thornes Park (Wakefield), Newby Hall (Ripon), Ripon racecourse, Ripley Castle (Harrogate), Burley in Wharfedale Festival, Embsay Steam railway & Doncaster Racecourse.
